No-exam life insurance

Eligibility for rapid decisions, how the process works, and what happens if you don't qualify.

Accelerated underwriting is now available from many carriers: within defined age and amount brackets, decisions rest on the application, prescription data, driving records, and similar sources rather than a physical exam. Approvals sometimes arrive the same day. Each quote on this site notes the exam status—whether it's needed, might be, or isn't.

What it changes

No exam does not mean no underwriting. Answers get verified, and policies issued based on untrue information can be challenged for two years. If the carrier's investigation flags concerns, it may still require an exam or testing; you then choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Accelerated underwriting typically covers applicants under age 60, seeking amounts within the carrier's standard limit, with no significant health conditions and no tobacco in the past year. Recent blood work from a doctor visit may substitute for an exam at some carriers.

When an exam is needed, a paramedical technician usually comes to your Redlands home or workplace for 20 to 30 minutes—no charge to you. Testing often improves the rate tier for applicants in good health, so an exam can be advantageous.
